Started to think about the possibility of intelligent alien life in the universe when I looked up and saw all them stars in the sky today. May that alien life exist even in our cosmic neighborhood? Think about it, if there is no other lifeforms in the universe and we truly are alone in the universe, then, are we lucky or what? 13,75 billion years and the entire universe (diameter of 28 parsecs or 98 billion light-years) for life to develop, it would be such a waste for humans to be the only intelligent (well, in my mind that's debatable;D) lifeform out there.
There is this equation that predicts the possibility of alien life in The Milky Way Galaxy, it's called The Drake Equation.
N = the number of civilizations in our galaxy with which communication might be possible
R* = the average rate of star formation per year in our galaxy
fℓ = the fraction of the above that actually go on to develop life at some point
fi = the fraction of the above that actually go on to develop intelligent life
fc = the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space
L = the length of time for which such civilizations release detectable signals into space
